Relationship of molecular breeding value for beef tenderness with heifer traits through weaning of their first calf

چکیده
Polymorphisms in μ-calpain (CAPN1) that beneficially associate with beef tenderness are reported to antagonistically calving day heifers and post-partum interval estrus cows. We, therefore, hypothesized a molecular breeding value for slice shear force, calculated based on CAPN1 calpastatin (CAST) genotypes, would demonstrate an antagonistic relationship between genomically predicted force ordinal date replacement heifers. A secondary objective of this study was evaluate the association polymorphism diacylglycerol O-acyltransferase (DGAT1) reproductive traits One hundred eighty-seven MARC III (¼ Angus, ¼ Hereford, Red Poll, Pinzgauer) had been selectively bred increase frequency these polymorphisms were submitted monthly ultrasound exams beginning at 333 d age continuing until start determine pubertal status. At last exam before breeding, all antral follicles counted, length height each ovary measured if genomic selection associated ovarian follicle number. Calving date, calf gender, birth weight recorded parturition. Regression analysis indicated no prediction (P = 0.16); however, there tendency puberty be delayed as genetic merit improved 0.09). The results present indicate within experimental precision, selecting using predictions minimal or performance Further cows is needed population but applying markers select steers does not antagonize influencing conception first

Heifer calving date positively influences calf weaning weights through six parturitions.
Longevity and lifetime productivity are important factors influencing profitability for the cow-calf producer. Heifers that conceive earlier in the breeding season will calve earlier in the calving season and have a longer interval to rebreeding. Calves born earlier in the calving season will also be older and heavier at weaning. Longevity data were collected on 2,195 heifers from producers in ...
متن کاملConsumer thresholds for establishing the value of beef tenderness.
In the present study, a national consumer evaluation was conducted for beef tenderness on USDA Select strip loin steaks of known Warner-Bratzler shear (WBS) force values, ranging from tough (> 5.7 kg) to tender (< 3.0 kg), and to assess the monetary value that consumers place on tenderness by determining the average price a consumer would pay for a steak in three tenderness categories. Three su...

متن کاملAssociation between molecular markers for beef tenderness and growth traits in Argentinian angus cattle.
Molecular markers for beef tenderness are classic examples of the contribution of genome technology to animal breeding through marker-assisted selection (MAS). Markers on the μ-calpain (CAPN1) and calpastatin (CAST) genes have been extensively evaluated for their association with tenderness. However, little is known about their potential effect on other economically important traits. In this wo...
متن کاملEffect of prebreeding body weight or progestin exposure before breeding on beef heifer performance through the second breeding season.
Two experiments evaluated prebreeding target BW or progestin exposure for heifers developed lighter than traditional recommendations. Experiment 1 evaluated the effects of the system on heifer performance through subsequent calving and rebreeding over 3 yr. Heifers (229 kg) were assigned randomly to be developed to 55% of mature BW (299 kg) before a 45-d breeding season (intensive, INT; n = 119...
